Adding Curb Appeal

Updated: May 25, 2023

The first thing people see when pulling up to your house is the outside.

Whether you are thinking about selling or wanting to spruce up the outside of your home, here’s a couple ways to add curb appeal!

Pulling into your driveway should give you a sense of security and ease. It might just be me, but pulling up to my house even when my grass is embarrassingly long doesn't give me that "feels good to be home" feeling.

Below I have listed updates that can be easy and cheap, and updates that would take a little more time and money. Although you can turn your yard into a luxury hangout spot with time and money, you don't necessarily have to pour money into adding curb appeal to your home. There are many small projects that make a big difference!

Tip #1 - Updating House #'s and Mailbox

Something as simple as replacing the house numbers and refreshing your mailbox can make a huge difference!

TIP: Painting your current house #'s and mailbox is easy!

Tip #2 - Refresh the Front Porch

A freshly painted front door is always a good idea! I suggest going with a neutral color and not a crazy one.

Adding potted plants by the front steps or door adds a homey touch.

Replacing or washing your welcome mat for a fresh look.

If you have extra room, use it! Add a bench or chair with a cute accent pillow. Make it your favorite reading spot by adding a side table.

Paint/stain or re-do the front steps, painting/staining being the cheaper option.

Paint or re-place the railing.

Refresh the light fixture!

TIP: Make the front walk-up area welcoming!

Tip #3 - Landscaping

I'm a sucker for beautiful landscaping. Both front and backyard benefit from beautiful landscaping.

Clean up and trim those bushes! A clean-cut yard catches the eye.

Some simple ways to beautify your yard; plant flowers, place rock, and lay fresh mulch.

Wanting to spend and do a little more, add a new walking path or brick patio for a perfect bonfire spot.

Add a garden! Fresh goodies for your kitchen and a beautiful garden added to your yard, you can't go wrong.

Tip #4 - Wash Your House

Presser washing the outside of your home and brick makes a huge difference. Rain doesn't wash away all the dirt and grime, especially with our ND wind flying around.

"There's no better feeling than making over a home, and it all starts with a fresh coat of paint"

Tip #5 - Painting

Pressure washed your home and are wanting to take it to the next step? Paint!

I suggest going a neutral color and not a crazy one.

Last summer I washed and painted my deck, HIGHLY suggest! I went with a dark brown, almost black.

Before choosing paint colors, figure out what vibe you're going with inside and outside the home. I suggest making the transition from the outside to inside flow.

Painting the brick. My house is a tan color, this summer on my project list is painting the front brick. I will be going with a darker color again, to go with the back deck!

Tip #6 - Back Patio Makeover

Adding twinkly lights and new patio furniture is a great start to turning your backyard in your own personal oasis.

Adding fire pit is always a great idea for relaxing back yard nights or bonfires!

Wanting to take the updates farther, add a gazebo, a bar area, and decorate with some new patio furniture!

Don't forget to add greenery and small decorations to make your backyard homey.

TIP: A patio doesn't have to be busy with grand designs to enjoy it. It can be simplicity with a touch of greenery to complete a lovely back deck space.

You don't have to break the bank

Small updates can go a long way when sprucing up the outside of your home. Plan out your budget on what you can afford and what updated you want most! There are also lots of ways to make updates yourself for less cost!
