'Sunday' Cleaning List

Updated: May 25, 2023

Knocking out bad habits, one at a time.

Do you ever notice things slowly start to pile up over the week, and by Sunday you look around and have the urge to deep clean. I used to feel overwhelmed on Sundays and sometimes wouldn't get anything done because well, anxiety. I have been working really hard at putting my makeup and hair products away every day and unloading/filling the dishwasher as I'm in the kitchen cooking. Sometimes it's the small things, Sundays don't feel as stressful when I don't let everything build up as much!

I know it's easier said than done, but I started with knocking out one bad habit at a time and I've noticed it makes me feel less overwhelmed on cleaning day! A current bad habit I'm working on, hanging my clothes back up after trying on outfits to wear...

Having 1 day set aside to complete my cleaning list has also been a life saver.

Sundays have become one of my favorite days recently. I used to try and spread cleaning out and have specific days for tasks to be done. But things always came up and tasks got missed for a week, sometimes two.

I have a touch of OCD when it comes to cleaning, and sometimes have a hard time even letting people help me clean. Solely for the fact I'm not sure they will clean up to my standards and I'll have to re-clean. Delegating is hard, but so necessary sometimes. I have been working on delegating tasks out to my boyfriend and trusting he will do a good job. Delegating and trusting help is sometimes hard but trust me it's good for the soul.

I have pretty much the same cleaning list for every Sunday, these are the constants!

#1 - Bathrooms

Toilets- Don't forget the base and inside!

Sink- I take a sanitary wipe and clean out the sink and facet and residue built up from the week. Don't forget to floss the facet and remove the filtered cap! This helps with preventing rust.

Shower- Spray it down and let it sit, then scrub scrub. It's easier to do once a week then randomly when you see it getting gross and already built up. TIP: Rinse down the shower every time you take one to help prevent build up.

Mirror- By Sunday mine usually has some toothpaste or water marks.

Floors- Sweep and mop, floors are the dirtiest thing in your house.

Wash/Replace- I personally replace my towel and hand towels after every couple showers, but my boyfriend insists Sundays are his day. I also wash the floor mats every Sunday, they get built up with hair and makeup. TIP: Add washing your shower curtains once a month!

#2 - Vacuuming

DOG HAIR. Although I probably shed just as bad, with having two animals hair seems to build up quick. I try to vacuum more than once a week, but Sundays are the day it for sure gets done. Up the stairs, every bedroom, and don't forget the corners!

TIP: I add steam cleaning my carpets once a month typically, sometimes a little longer.

"The objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness living within that environment"

#3 - Wash Bedding/Laundry

Although I typically do wash clothes during the week, they typically don't get put away and hung up until Sunday's.

I love the feeling of fresh bedding on Sundays. Especially with having animals.

TIP: Give your animals a bath every 2 weeks, it helps with shedding and dirt being tracked everywhere. Also keeps their fur looking nice!

#4 - Kitchen

I try to keep my kitchen clean during the week after cooking, but things get used and not always cleaned out right away.

Kitchen clean list: microwave, air fryer, wipe counters down/backsplash or wall, scrub kitchen sink, sink disposal, organize refrigerator/freezer.

Floors are the last thing I clean in the kitchen!

TIP: Once a month I typically add wiping down the outside of my kitchen cabinets to the cleaning list, our greasy hands are always touching them. It helps keep them looking nice for longer!

#5 - Mow/Pull Weeds

Don't be that neighbor.

With animals, this also means cleaning up dog poop for me.

Once a Month Items for Me

Most of us are not superhero's who have time to deep clean the house once a week.

Once a month I add things like dusting (don't forget your vents), washing dog slobber off the walls (from throwing toys), cleaning windows, and wiping down doors.

I don't add them all on the same day each month either, I spread them out to not overwhelm my Sunday List.

Make it Fun!

Cleaning doesn't have to be stressful. Put on some good jams and knock out your Sunday to-do list! Making a list helps a lot in having something to cross off and feel good about, also in knowing there's an end. Having pretty much the same cleaning list every week, I've noticed it taking less and less time as well!
